Rebuilding Together Public Relations Internship

In my final semester of undergrad, I pulled double-duty interning in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Rebuilding Together North Central Florida is a grassroots non-profit with a mission to keep Alachua County residents safe and dry in the homes they’ve lived in for years. In addition to repairs, they also make structural adjustments to homes as needed for handicap accessibility and provide homeowners with the tools and knowledge they need to maintain the property after their job’s done. After each season of projects, we put together a booklet highlighting each homeowner’s story and the incredible before-and-after of their homes – it serves as a powerful tool for garnering support and donations from area businesses, as well as a commemorative “thank you” for the season’s sponsors. 2015: A Year of Safe and Healthy Homes

Sacred Heart Public Relations Internship

In the summer of 2014, I had the pleasure of interning in the Marketing and Public Relations Department of Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. One of my main tasks there was to interview, write and take photos for the hospital’s bi-weekly internal newsletter, “Snips & Snaps.” The style of writing for newsletters was not something I was particularly familiar with, but thanks to interesting interviewees and the guidance of my supervisors, it all came together. Baby Gator Child Development and Research Center

Only the finest writers and communicators hail from the University of Florida’s College of Journalism, and partly so because many students are required to take a course on reporting. This class is no joke, but definitely fundamental to doing well in upper-level course work. Students learn about news gathering, writing and, most importantly, AP style. Take a look at the article I wrote on Baby Gator.
